Ella Holland is a mixed-media artist whose aim is to nourish and energise the viewer with joyful depictions of beauty and sanctuary. Her subjects include botanicals, interiors and symbolic items that tell personal stories and evoke memories. Using vibrant colours and expressive lines, Ella captures the energy and mood of her subject matter. Her interiors are spaces you would like to be, settings for conversation and reverie, full of cherished personal touches. Her botanicals ask you to slow down, look closer and find peace in the diversity and wonder of nature.
Against the backdrop of our technological world, Ella chooses to use and celebrate traditional art materials, approaching them with a playful attitude. She uses dynamic combinations of ink, watercolour, gouache, graphic markers and pastels on paper. There is a sensual pleasure in the process – the scratching sound of an ink-laden pen leaving gleaming lines in its wake, the chalky feel of pastels against fingers, the surprise bloom of colour combinations that sing together, the slash of a graphic marker across textured paper.
Ella also creates unique artworks commissioned to commemorate special events (birthdays, weddings etc), places (childhood homes or favourite travel locations) and personalised maps of once in a lifetime trips.
She lives on Cammeraygal Country in Sydney, Australia.
