Artist Statement
Ella Holland is a mixed-media artist whose work seeks to nourish and energize the viewer by celebrating simple pleasures, beauty, and sanctuary. Her subject matter includes interiors, botanicals, landscapes, and meaningful objects—each explored through vibrant colour and expressive, gestural lines that capture the vitality of the everyday.
Her interiors are imagined as spaces for conversation and reverie—personal havens that invite the viewer to step in, take a seat, and rest. Her botanicals encourage a slowing down and closer look, revealing the wonder and diversity of the natural world. Through still life, Ella also explores the emotional resonance of objects—how they hold memory, tell stories, and connect us to moments or people in time.
Painting regularly on location, whether around Sydney or further afield in Spain, Morocco, or the desert landscapes of Arkaroola, Ella draws on travel as a source of inspiration—gathering new palettes, atmospheres, and subject matter wherever she goes.
In the studio, she works with a joyful approach to traditional materials, blending ink, watercolour, gouache, graphic markers, and pastel on paper. The physicality of her process is key—the scratch of an ink pen, the chalky drag of pastel, or the surprise of a colour combination that sings.
Ella also welcomes commissions, creating bespoke artworks to commemorate special events, meaningful places, or once-in-a-lifetime journeys.
She lives and works on Cammeraygal Country in Sydney, Australia.
